Minamoto Yoshitsune was born in 1159, the son of a minor samurai lord. His father was killed when Yoshitsune was just a child, and he was raised by his uncle, Yoritomo. Yoritomo was a powerful warlord, and he saw great potential in his nephew. He trained Yoshitsune in the art of warfare, and Yoshitsune quickly proved himself to be a skilled and fearless warrior.

In 1180, the Taira clan, a rival clan to the Minamoto, launched a rebellion against the emperor. Yoritomo raised an army to put down the rebellion, and Yoshitsune played a key role in the victory. He led a series of daring raids against the Taira, and his bravery and skill helped to turn the tide of the war.
After the war, Yoritomo established himself as the new shogun, or military ruler of Japan. Yoshitsune was one of his most trusted generals, and he continued to play a key role in the shogunate.
