Early Life and Career

Betty Marion White was born on January 17, 1922, in Oak Park, Illinois. From an early age, she displayed a passion for performing, taking part in school plays and singing in the church choir. After graduating from high school, she pursued her acting aspirations in Los Angeles, where she landed her first professional role in the 1945 radio sitcom "The Great Gildersleeve."

Throughout the 1950s, White made a name for herself as a versatile actress, appearing in numerous television shows and films, including "Life with Elizabeth" (1953-1955),"Date with the Angels" (1957-1958),and the popular game show "Password" (1961-1975). Her comedic timing and infectious laugh made her a fan favorite.

The Golden Years

Betty White's career reached new heights in the 1970s and 1980s with her iconic roles in two beloved sitcoms: "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and "The Golden Girls."

As the sardonic and lovable Sue Ann Nivens on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," White showcased her comedic genius and earned three Emmy Awards for her performance. The show's groundbreaking portrayal of independent working women resonated with audiences, and White's character became a cultural touchstone.

In 1985, White joined the cast of "The Golden Girls" as Rose Nylund, the lovable and naive St. Olaf native. The show became a massive hit, garnering critical acclaim and a devoted fan base. White's portrayal of Rose earned her another three Emmy Awards, and she became one of the most beloved characters on television.

Later Career and Legacy

After "The Golden Girls" ended in 1992, Betty White continued to work steadily, appearing in a wide range of television shows, films, and stage productions. She hosted the reality show "Betty White's Off Their Rockers" from 2012 to 2014, showcasing her love for animals and her comedic instincts.

White's unwavering dedication to animal welfare was a lifelong passion. She served on the board of directors of the Morris Animal Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to funding animal health research. Her advocacy work helped raise awareness about pet adoption and responsible ownership.

Betty White passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 31, 2021, just weeks before her 100th birthday. Her death was met with an outpouring of grief and tributes from fans, colleagues, and celebrities around the world.
