Browning showed an interest in firearms at a young age. He would often help his father in the gunsmith shop, and he would often take apart and reassemble his father's guns.
In 1869, when Browning was fourteen years old, his family moved to Quincy, Illinois. Browning continued to work in his father's gunsmith shop, and he also began to experiment with designing his own firearms.
Browning's First Inventions
Browning's first major invention was the Browning Single-Shot Rifle. He designed the rifle in 1878, when he was twenty-three years old. The rifle was a success, and Browning sold the design to Winchester Repeating Arms Company.
In 1884, Browning designed the Browning Double Automatic Shotgun. The shotgun was a success, and Browning sold the design to Winchester Repeating Arms Company.

Browning's Move to Europe

Browning lived in Belgium for the rest of his life. He died in 1926, at the age of seventy-one.
