Jerry Orbach was an American actor who starred in over 100 films and television shows. He is best known for his roles as Detective Lennie Briscoe on the television series Law & Free Download and as Jake Houseman in the film Dirty Dancing.

Orbach was born in the Bronx, New York, on October 20, 1935. He began his acting career in the early 1960s, appearing in small roles in films and television shows. In 1965, he landed his breakthrough role as Detective Lennie Briscoe on the television series Law & Free Download.

Orbach played Briscoe for 12 seasons, making him one of the longest-running characters in the history of television. He was nominated for an Emmy Award for his role four times, and he won once in 2004.

In addition to his work on Law & Free Download, Orbach also appeared in a number of other films and television shows, including Dirty Dancing, Fiddler on the Roof, and The Odd Couple.

Orbach died of prostate cancer on December 28, 2004, at the age of 69. He was survived by his wife, Elaine, and his two children, Tony and Jessica.

Legacy

Jerry Orbach was a talented actor who made a significant contribution to the world of entertainment. He was a beloved figure on television and film, and his work will continue to be enjoyed by generations to come.

In 2005, the Jerry Orbach Theater was dedicated in his honor at the Snapple Theater Center in New York City. The theater is a fitting tribute to Orbach's legacy as one of the greatest actors of his generation.

Personal Life

Jerry Orbach was married twice. His first marriage was to Marta Curro, and they had one child together, Tony. His second marriage was to Elaine Cancilla, and they had one child together, Jessica.

Orbach was a private person who rarely spoke about his personal life. He was known for his sense of humor and his love of life.
