Hamer was assigned to lead the task force that would track down and capture Bonnie and Clyde.
Hamer and his team spent months tracking Bonnie and Clyde, and they finally caught up with them in a cornfield near Gibsland, Louisiana, on May 23, 1934. A fierce gunfight ensued, and both Bonnie and Clyde were killed. Hamer's team was victorious, and the reign of terror of Bonnie and Clyde came to an end.
