Volunteer Teacher Journey: A Story of Faith, Failure, Friendship, and Fun in China
I never thought I would be a volunteer teacher in China. I had always dreamed of traveling to China, but I never imagined that I would actually live and work there.
But when I was offered the opportunity to teach English at a university in Beijing, I knew that I had to take it. It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I couldn't pass it up.

I arrived in Beijing in August 2019, and I quickly fell in love with the city. The people were friendly and welcoming, the food was delicious, and the culture was fascinating.
I started teaching my English classes in September, and I quickly realized that I had a lot to learn. My students were all very eager to learn, but they had very different learning styles than I was used to.
I had to adapt my teaching methods to meet their needs, and I had to learn to be more patient and understanding.
There were times when I felt frustrated and overwhelmed, but I never gave up. I knew that I was making a difference in my students' lives, and that was what kept me going.
In addition to teaching, I also had the opportunity to travel around China. I visited the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, and the Terracotta Army.
I also got to experience Chinese culture firsthand. I attended a traditional Chinese wedding, I learned how to make dumplings, and I even tried karaoke.
My time in China was an amazing experience. I learned so much about myself and about the world. I made lifelong friends, and I developed a deep appreciation for Chinese culture.
If you are thinking about volunteering abroad, I highly recommend it. It is a life-changing experience that will stay with you forever.
Here are some tips for volunteer teachers in China:
- Be prepared to adapt your teaching methods to meet the needs of your students.
- Be patient and understanding.
- Don't be afraid to ask for help.
- Take advantage of the opportunity to travel and experience Chinese culture.
- Make lifelong friends.
I hope that my story will inspire you to step outside of your comfort zone and experience the world. Volunteering abroad is an amazing way to make a difference, learn about new cultures, and make lifelong friends.
